Just when I thought they couldn’t f*** up Samus’ design any more (I despise zero suit in the first place), they introduce this. Strap-on high heels. Way to continue to ruin my favorite girl game character, Nintendo.

It hurts me so bad.

I love (and by love I mean feel indescribable anguish) how we went from a female character who surprised the gaming world by being mistaken for a dude, to…whatever the hell this is.

HEELS? REALLY?!

Good job guys, you screwed it up royally

You all sound like Zero Suit Samus is something completely new that they just threw out there with no canon in the series. The Zero Suit’s been around since Metroid Zero Mission for the GBA, which came out in 2004, and her wearing high heals isn’t new either, if anyone remembers Other M.

Oh I know it’s not a new thing, this has bothered me for a while now. I always found the suit to be rather a silly choice, especially considering Samus’ background and the whole point for her initial design. It seems like a strange decision going “let’s take this character who is known for being a female character who broke gender roles and didn’t need to wear anything feminine or sexy…and stick her in a skin-tight outfit and slap some heels on her.”

I can say at least the heels now have some function, but when I think “killer heels” I don’t think Samus…I think Bayonetta.

Remember when this was Samus? These two characters don’t even look like they’re from the same game. Like said above: these new designs completely defeat the idea behind her original design.

If they wanted to make some hot babe eye candy in a skin-tight blue suit, they should’ve just made a completely different series.

A character design should reflect what that character is all about. Samus is an orphan raised as a warrior by the chozo. If you were to point to the design that matches this description, you’d point to the badass character in the armor, not the one above.

It would seem that in recent years, Nintendo has tried repeatedly to do something new with a character that didn’t have much of a personality.  In certain cases it is best to leave well enough alone, but Nintendo is a company that truly cares for it’s titles and wants to make each one as best as it can be.  So it really bugs me when people begin to bash a choice in direct of their favorite character that doesn’t seem to agree with their sense of what the character is.

Samus Aran is currently suffering from this particular form of fandom.  In truth Samus is a leading lady who’s life, both professional and personal can be left to whims of the fan base that subscribes to her brand of action packed justice, but when you get to the core of who she is…there really isn’t much there.  Similar to the recent outing of the Master Chief John-117; Samus has to find her place in this new world and unfortunately for her fans, it’s not one they all seem to agree with.

Most of her fanatics have taken issue with what’s going on underneath the Varia Suit.  Many claim that her  Zero Suit makes her look like a fetish pin up model, or in one case a fuck toy….I submit to you a less conservative look at Samus’ Zero Suit.

As the years have past so too, has her Zero Suit, as you will see below.

So…I would have to ask you as a fan, who has love the growth of this character for the near 30 years she has been around…What is the problem with this Zero Suit as opposed to the others, the answer is nothing.

There is nothing wrong with it at all.  As someone else who reblogged this stated.  ”A characters design must reflect the character is all about.” Samus has been, and always will be about UTILITY.  Making the most of her situation, and benefiting greatly from it.  Her previous heels did nothing to advance her cause.  She was extremely limited in what she could do and required a smash ball to dawn her suit again, and that’s just in the Smash-verse.  In her own game, she was a sitting duck outside of her suit.  This issue was addressed in Zero Mission, and again in Other M.  The jet boots are her answer to that issue.  Samus, much like Snake, is supposed to be the swiss army knife of adventures, weapons and equipment acquired on site.  If you don’t like her don’t play her, but there’s no reason to say that she doesn’t reflect her character.  In truth, that’s not your place to decide that.  Many of you are the same people that said DMC wasn’t a good game because Dante didn’t look like Dante, and that game was hella awesome.  This version of Samus, is in the same boat.  Nintendo has nothing to prove here, other than she’s going to be amazing to work with, and it’s going to be easier for you to play with BOTH versions of her.  So CALM THE FUCK DOWN, it’s just a game.

Also, let’s not forget.  She’s a woman, and a brutal killing machine, that has nuked two planets, killed off a species only to become it’s last living remnant, and is now on the radar of those she used to serve, marked for termination.  She could give a fuck about what you think her Zero Suit should like, and maybe as an empowered woman, she loves looking fierce every once and awhile…either way.  It’s just a game, and we’ve already spent too much time on it.

See you later space persons.

p.s. Good job Nintendo.  I like what you’re doing here, and I hope Metroid Dread, or whatever you wanna call it, comes out and makes good use of these jet boots.

This so much, I can’t wait to see a new Metroid game with some mission with Zero Suit Samus and the jet boots are a nice touch!

I don’t see any problem with the heels… They are not there just for the fashion or to make Samus more sexual.

And you can see that the heels aren’t even part of ther catsuit.
